Blakenham, Suffolk: Indenture of lease of manor

Indenture of lease, by the Provost and College to John Veare the younger of the manor of Blakenham on the water with all lands pertaining in Blakenham, Baylham and Claydon and elsewhere, co. Suffolk, with all rents, reversions, fishings, fowlings, hawkings and huntings belonging thereto, and a wood called Blakenham Hall wood containing ten acres, the advowson of the benefice and the keeping of courts and profits therefrom being reserved to the lessors. To hold for the lives in survivorship of Edward Veare and John Veare, the sons of Henry Veare of Blakenham, brother of the lessee, and John Veare, the son of John Veare of Henly, co. Suffolk. Rent £13 16s 8d, and 2 quarters of wheat and 24 quarters of malt or their money equivalent, and one boar at Christmas or 20s to buy the same. Witness: Benjamin Owtred, bursar.

Endorsed with a memorandum that 10s of the yearly rent of £13 16s 8d is paid for the wood called Blakenham Hall Wood, and a statement by the lessee that Edward Veare is about nine years old and John Veare his brother seven years old and John Veare son of John Veare about twenty one.
