Edward Clarke, Bentley, to the Provost and fellows concerning his survey of the demesnes. Many of the bounds and landmarks are ploughed up and destroyed. "I doe verrily believe yt ye Colledge doth not suffer alone, the Rectors Gliebes baring a like share in Loss. The late Horrid Rebellion that incited Evill Men with seemeing sanctified lookes to Graspe at Crownes and septers And to destroy the best of Monarchs Did aswell adapt their zealous proselites to pull downe Churches and Colledges and reach forth their Harpy Clawes to hooke in Manors. But blessed be God that hath delivered us from the hands of unreasonable men." [Anti-Commonwealth sentiment]
