Eton, Buckinghamshire: Letters patent

Letters patent granting the Provost and College two fairs at Eton on a ground of theirs called Mychelmylwardeshey and in other places within the town and parish of Eton wherever shall seem good to them, for nine days each year viz. for three days following Ash Wednesday and for six days following 13th August; provided the said fairs are not to the harm of neighbouring fairs. The grantees to have cognisance of all pleas of trespasses and contracts at the said fairs in their court, and exemption from the King's purveyors and ministers.
Witnesses: J. archbishop of Canterbury, chancellor, W. bishop of Lincoln and Th. bishop of Bath and Wells, John, duke of Oxford, and Humphrey, duke of Buckingham, Sir Ralph Boteller, lord of Seudeley, Treasurer, and Sir John Beauchamp, Knights, master Adam Moleyns, clerk, Keeper of the Privy seal.

The Great Seal, green wax, on plaited white, blue and gold threads. Only a fragment survives, including most of the King's figure.
