Creeting, Suffolk: Statement concerning a fire
Level
Item
Date
13 May 1745
Content description
Statement, signed by Mark Purt, rector of Creeting St Mary, and six others, that a fire in the outhouses of William Moore of Creeting, wool - comber, set fire to and burned down a barn, stable and cart lodge, part of premises held by John Groom, miller, on lease from Eton College, with a great quantity of clover seed, hay and other goods, the loss to the said Groom amounting to at lease £110. The said poor sufferer is of himself unable to rebuild the premises, as, by the terms of his lease, he should do, "unless relieved by the charity of well disposed persons". Attached is a list of sums of money collected locally for John Groom.
