Creeting, Suffolk: Letter concerning living of Alderton
Item
27 June 1757
G. Emly, Monksely, to Reverend Dr Burton, asking for the support of the College in his candidature for the living of Alderton, co. Norfolk. "I have had a disagreement with some of my parishioners on account of my demanding £30 a year for the tythes of the lands in the occupation of the College tenant: And I am told they wrote a complaining letter to the Bishop, desiring him to insist on my residence. If his Lordship mentions it to you, please to give my duty to him and tell him the above was sole reason thereof; that Mr Wynne, an unexceptionable person, has serv'd my church ever since I have been at Monksely, and does serve it now, and will continue to do so, and lives near the middle of my parish (tho' not in it), and nearer my church than my Parsonage house stands, and that we have agreed and all is well again."
