Indenture tripartite between Roger Lupton, Provost of Eton, and the College on one part, Robert Rede and Muriel, his wife, on the second part and dame Margaret Gybson, abbess of the abbey of Burneham, on the third part, by which the Provost and College bind themselves to the said abbess and convent to keep a solemn anniversary within the College church yearly, with the priests called the conducts, the clerks and the querestours of the College, on Thursday after the feast of the Translation of St Thomas the Martyr or the next day after that it may be conveniently kept, for the souls of John Berton and Muriel, his wife, and Robert Rede and the souls of the fathers and mothers of the said John and Muriel, in manner following. The conducts and clerks and querestours shall come together into the choir the day before such anniversary and then and there with note singing Placebo and Dirige, with nine lessons and lauds and other prayers following and according thereunto and the collect Deus Indulgenciarum to be specially said for the souls aforesaid; and the next morning the same shall sing mass of Requiem by note with such "sermonyes lights hers ryngyng as they use at such anniversaries". For any default the College to pay the abbess 6s 6d.
The said Robert and Muriel have granted the College for ever a tenement in Burneham in which the said Robert dwells with 2 acres in the fields of Burneham called Opendale.
Two seals, round, red wax, on doubled tags.
(1) 20mm. Within a cusped circle a shield. Bad impression. A legend.
(2) 13mm. A pelican.
