Title
Hanging Langford, Wiltshire: Statement concerning lease
Level
Item
Date
1765
Content description
Statement, directed to the Rev Mr Barford, orator of the university of Cambridge, that Mr William Moody, of Wilton, has bought the lease of Hanging Langford manor from the trustees of the will of Charles Perkins, esquire, to whom it was granted on 12 January 1763, and is desirous of purchasing from the College the reversion in fee of this estate and of the small copyhold or leasehold estates of which it is seized in Hanging Langford. His reason for inclining to make this purchase is the prejudice his tenants of the farm and of his freeholds (which include nearly all the hamlet) sustain at present from the intercommoners in right of those small esates which they hold under the College, by which right he must ever be precluded from making improvements.
