Thurlby, Lincolnshire: Indenture of bargain and sale

Indenture of bargain and sale, by Stephen, Lord Bishop of Exeter, for 5s, to the Rev. John Fisher, clerk, vicar of Thurlby, of the premises. For one year. Rent a peppercorn.
The Conveyance is made in pursuance of a bequest of John Newborough, late schoolmaster of Eton College School, who by his last will dated 18 January 1712, amended by a codicil of 2 March following, bequeathed to Dr Thomas Richardson, and to Dr Stephen Weston (late Bishop of Exeter), fellows, £1000 in trust, to be laid out in buying lands for the augmentation of any two of the College vicarages of the value of £30 a year, £500 on each. Lucy Weston, wife of Stephen Weston, was made executrix and proved the will in the prerogative court of Canterbury on 18 June 1712. On 17 November 1712 Dr Henry Godolphin, Provost, Mr Thomas Horne, Vice-Provost, Mr John Hawtrey, Dr Thomas Richardson, and Dr Stephen Weston, fellows, and the major part of all the fellows met and chose the vicarages of Astall and Furlbrooke, co. Oxford, and Thurlby, co. Lincoln, and by an instrument under their common seal of 8 December 1712 declared the same. By an instrument of 7 January 1735 the College approved the present settlement of lands which have cost £470, besides the cost of the conveyances and other incidental charges.

Seal, red wax, applied on doubed tag, oval, 18 x 16mm, armorial, the See of Exeter impaling the foregoing arms.
Endorsed that the indenture was enrolled in Chancery on 28 October following.
