Thurlby, Lincolnshire: Draft letter concerning Thirlby estate
Item
10 June 1773
1 folio
Draft of E Betham, Greenford, to Mr Palmer. "I believe it is since I had the pleasure of seeing you and I was presented to the above living by the Provost and Fellows of Kings and soon after I was so fortunate as to be elected a Fellow of Eton near Windsor, built also by Henry VI for bringing up boys to supply the vacancies from time to time in his other foundation; so that I have eaten the bread of that good and pious King for more than 60 years and have a fair prospect of receiving at his hands a comfortable subsistence to the end of my life". As bursar he asks Mr Palmer to find out the value of the Thirlby estate. It is an impropriation consisting of the great tythes with about 120 acres of glebe.
