Counterpart of lease, by Abraham Chapman, esquire, to John Standen, of Clymping, yeoman, of the rectory of Clymping except the tythes of Baylies Cort Farme. From Michaelmas last for 13 years. Rent £128, and a couple of good fat geese at St Thomas' day. The lessee to discharge the duties to the church and poor and a customary drinking for such persons as shall attend at the accustomed time and the third part of all taxes on the premises; whilst the lessor will discharge two parts thereof and for quartering the like and likewise for every horse and man 20d a day and night and for every foot soldier 10d a day and night so ofter as it shall happen, and the rent due to Eton College and the compostition wheat to the state. The lessee to repair the chancel of the church and the parsonage house and barns and gates and fences. The lessee not to break up or sow with grain the field by the parsonage house and the fields behind it called Horse More Greene upon penalty of 40s. During the last three of his tenancy the lessee to lay ten loads of good dung or soil upon the lands called Penfolds.

Witnesses: William Bell, Anthony Smith, who are witnesses also to an agreement on the dorse of the indenture, signed by the lessee, that the lease shall run not for 13 years but for 7 years. Seal, oval, 15 x 10mm, red wax, on doubled tag. A bad impression.
