Will dated 20 January 1501-02, of Rose Chapman, widow, leaving her body to be buried in the chapel of the Holy Trinity on the north side of the parish church of All Saints, Chyppynfarendon, next to the tomb of her husband; to the fabric of the cathedral church of Salisbury 12d; to the high altar of the parish church of Farendon 2s; to each light in the said church 4d; to the chapel of the Holy Trinity in the said church a pound of wax; to the building of the chapel (ediculi) of St John on the north side 20 sheep; to the repair of the church 20 sheep. Her executors are to have painted at her expense an image in le Roode loft by the high cross. And she bequeaths to the said church a tenemant called Prattes howsse; to Sir William Bonar a barn called the newe Barne in Rydynge Street; to the same Sir William a tenement in Sowthestrete called Hallyshowsse; to the same a tenement in Rodbourne and Broodeblondesdon, co. Wilts; to the same 100 sheep; to the same £20 of legal money; to Richard Wykes a barn called Bellamys Barne in Westbroke; to the same £20 of legal money; to Elizabeth her daughter all her lands in Hynton, co. Oxford, in the parish of Chynnor; to the same all her lands in Bledlewreyght for her life, with remainder to John Bonar; to the same £3 6s 8d to each of her godsons 4d; to the wife of Master John Rawlyns 4 sheep; to John Wykes 6 sheep; to Joan Harford 6 sheep; to each sevant in her house 2 sheep; to Margaret Halle a sheep and to her son 2 sheep; to the light of St John the Baptist a sheep; to master John Lathom 20s and the residue of her goods to Margaret Parker, Sir William Bonar, Richard Wykes, and Robert Draper, named her executors, to dispose as they think fit for the good of her soul, the soul of her husband and parents and all the faithful deceased. Margaret Parker and Robert Draper to have 20s each for their labours. John Snedevale, vicar of the church of Farendon to be surveyor of the will and have 20s for his labour. Witnesses: Master John Lethom and Sir Humphrey Barret. Proved before master William Jonys, official of the perculiar and prebendal jurisdiction of Farendon, 10 February 1501-2.
Seal, pointed oval, 40 x 26mm, red wax, on tongue. Within Gothic niche the Virgin and child. In base a quartrefoil.
