Content description
Receipt by Thomas Ruston, monk and cellarer of the monastery of the blessed Peter of Westminster, from master Roger Malmesbury, master of the hospital of St James, of 20s yearly rent issuing from the lands and fields called Kyngesdown belonging to the said hospital.
Seal of the office of cellarer, oval, 28 x 23mm, bronze was, on tongue. In a central canopied niche the Virgin, in two other niches, a little lower, on either side, female saints, underneath, a figure kneeling in prayer.
[By Letter Patent of 17 July 1467 the reversion of the Hospital of St James was granted to the College upon the death, cession or resignatino of Roger Malmesbury, King's clerk, the warden. (ECR 39 129. Calendar of Patent Rolls, 1467 - 1477 p.63). The property had originally been granted to the College on 30 October 1449 ECR 39 100. Calendar of Patent Rolls 1446 - 1452 p. 296]
