Notarial instrument, certified by Peter Barate, priest, of the diocese of Bayeux, notary public, consisting of copies of the following:
(1) Grant by Hugh de Gor' (IV) to the church of the nuns of Gosleinfonte of the church of Malpeltreham, for the soul of himself and his ancestors and of Milesend, his wife, and 50s sterling which he had in the same church.
Witnesses: John de Hosdenc, H. de Beleville, Stephen de Belfast, H de Sancto Claro, H de Branmoustier, Reynald de Merreval, Robert de Marregin.
(2) Notification by Hugh de Gornayo (IV) and Milesend, his wife, that they have built the church of the Blessed Mary and St John the Baptist at Goislainfontana next the aldergrove (alnetum) which is beside the brook called Clarus Rivus, for which place they have given an acre of land to the church of St Maurice and another acre to Hugh de Sancto Mauricio. To the same church accordingly they have transferred the nuns who formerly lived in Valle Prelii, to whom they confirm all the alms and possessions which they had formerly given them, assigning further to them a carucate of land at Goislainfontana, the tythes of ovens in the same vill, and 50s of Beauvais in the rents thereof, to wit in pontage 20s, in rent of the forest 20s, in taxes (censibus) 10; in the mill 18 minas of corn; at Castrum Firmitatis a carucate of land and the tythe of their orchard of Wellevue; the tythe of Loceio which Oliver de Agia has to pay them, with the tythe of £4 which he has in the toll of Escoceii; in the land Landunensi, from the marriage portion of Millesend, 40s. In England at Castra 2½ marks silver; the church of Malpeltreham, after the decease of Ralph de Agia. Be it known that all the said gifts have been made with the agreement of their sons Gerard and Hugh. Afterwards they have them co-partnership in all the fee of Hugh de Brannostier at Brokedalle, which they bought from Roger Sorix for 60s of Beauvais.
Furthermore, they have granted them all the lands and alms which the nuns possess of the gift of the grantor's men, to wit, of the gift of John de Boell a wood and land he had next their place for which they have given him 60s of Beauvais; of the gift of Aelebinus the Burgundian and Hawisa his wife for their daughter Eremburc all the land he had in Mesnillum Aelelin and a pledge (vadimonium) of 20s in the same town and a pledge of 60s at Fossatum, and the tythe of their orchard at Goislainfontant; of the gift of Guarin de Rameia the tythe of Calni, which he possessed by hereditary right, and whatever he had in the mill of Malils Pultibus and in another mill of Hericurt, and the co-partnership which he had in the same vill, all which he gave them for his two daughters Beatrice and Ada; of the gift of Robert de Hanselaines and his wife Awise and Richard his son, who in the same house came to conversion with their two daughters Mary and Erembourc, a carucate of land at (Frielourt) and three bushels (modios) of corn and three oats at Boscum Hugonis, which the monks of Mortuum Mare pay by grant of the sons of the same Robert, Warin and Ralph; of the gift of Theobald the treasurer of Beauvais two bushels of oats at Boscum Hugonis; of the gift of Mary, daugther of Godeleris, a moity of the tythe of the fee of Peter de Sancto Luciano at Maltares; of the gift of Odo de Helpegneys for Laucia, his daughter, two sheaves (guerbas) of the tythe of his whole land and an acre of meadow at Hespegneyas; of the gift of John de Roseyo the tythe of his whole fee at Heregnem; of the gift of Ralph Escouart a field of land at Gaslioinfontanam; of the gift of Geoffrey Cordelle two fields there; of the gift of Hugh de Belmont in the same vill a field; of the gift of Hugh son of Avecire a field there; of the gift of Hugh de Betencourt two minas of corn; of the gift of Rainald de Intriveal two minas in the mill of Malis Pultibus. All the foregoing are granted in frankalmoign for the salvation of the souls of the donors and of their ante-cedents and children. Furthermore Mylesend grants the said church all her emptions and pledges which she shall have on the day of her death.

(3) Confirmation by King Henry II to the nuns of Goslainfontana who dwell by the aldergrove which is beside the brook called Clarus Rivus, of all the gifts made to them by Hugh de Gornayo and Millesend, his wife, and by anyone else.
Witnesses: Geoffrey the archdeacon of Canterbury, William de Curci, dapifer, Seierus de Quinci, Reginald de Curtenai, Reginald Fitz Urse.
Mark of Barate, the notary, and his certificate. Traces of the Great seal of the archiepiscopal court of Rouen, green wax, on doubled tag.
[This confirmation is dated by Cooke (p.68) 1163 to 1170 on the evidence of the witnessing of Geoffrey the archdeacon and Reginald Fitz Urse. The date can probably be further narrowed by the presence of William de Curci and Reginald de Curtenai who are found (Delisle and Berger; Receuil des Actes de Henri II tom. 1, p. 429) as witnesses in 1169].
