Content description
Copy of an order made on at a sitting of the Commissioners for Defective Titles etc at His Majesty's Commission House in Fleet Street. William Day, clerk, vicar of Mapledurham, presented a petition setting forth that the whole tytehes of the demesnes of the manor of Gurney have been thought to have of right belonged to the vicars, but upon search two parts were found to have anciently belonged to the Prior of Lewes. Whereupon the petitioner at his own cost procurred a commission of inquistition, and had it executed by which His Majesty is entitled to that portion. The petitioner then desired that the said portion be settled upon and secured to the vicarage rather than to any private person. But the Commissioners were not sufficiently informed in the matter, nor how far the Dean and Prebendaries of Windsor might be concerned in way of right thereto, and so referred the petition to Sir Edmund Sawyer for further information.
