Chalcots, Middlesex: Letter concerning railway plan
Level
Item
Date
23 January 1832
Extent & medium
2 folios
Content description
Thomas Clarke, 2 Upper Bedford Place, to Rev George Bethell. The indented railway "will pass over Chalcots Farm through at least six several fields which of course must be highly injurious to the property as a grass farm... The Middlesex farmers who have already suffered so much by the canal consider this rail-road as likely to produce their utter ruin... I hope the College will not only withhold their consent but contribute their powerful aid to the opposition which is making to the Bill and that it will ultimately be thrown out." Concerning the renewal of the lease of Chalcots.
