Title
Chalcots, Middlesex: Letter concerning the difficulty in finding tenants
Level
Item
Date
7 March 1832
Extent & medium
2 folios
Content description
Thomas Clarke, St Leonards, to Rev George Bethell, with a rental of Chalcots and Wylds farms at Lady day 1831. The letter enlarges upon the difficulty of finding tenants. "The fine asked for the renewal of Chalcots and the terms imposed incline me to think the College do not wish to renew. I beg to observe that the buildings are of little value but have been occupied by tradesmen who have been induced to render them pretty "villakins" as the late Mr Earle used to call them, but the retirement and the scenery which were their chief beauties are now to be destroyed by your building plans and by the Rail Road.."
