Content description
Thomas Clarke, Upper Bedford Place, to Rev George Bethell, concerning the same as ECR 49 056, with a draft of Bethell's answer in which he states "that the grand general principle of all calculations for fines upon the renewal or purchase of Beneficial Leases is this, that the purchaser shall be enabled to repay himself at the expiration of the term granted the original purchase money with 5 per cent interest thereupon." The present calculation has been made in this way "not upon the valuation of the lessor's surveyor, but upon the statement of the lessee himself..."
