Chalcots, Middlesex: Letter concerning site for a church
Item
10 July 1847
2 folios
Tooke Son and Hallowes, Bedford Row, to the Provost. Mr Bird has asked for a written assurance that the College will grant the site of the church. "£1500 have already been subscribed and it is the wish of the committee to begin to build immediately as it is said that the Rev Mr Dale the Rector of St Pancras has intimated his intention to endeavour to raise funds for building 9 new churches in his very extensive parish, and to place one of them close to Haverstock Hill and for fear his parishioners should subscribe towards the church to be built on the College estate we are informed that Mr Dale proposes to erect immediately a wooden church at Haverstock Hill in his own parish. The Committee are therefore anxious to begin before Mr Dale is able to proceed with is intentions."
