Content description

J B O Bayly, Boreham, to Thomas Batcheldor, esquire, Garter House, Windsor Castle. "It is very nearly a year ago you kindly promised to make a 'progress' into my neighbourhood and go into my little affairs. Now I feel assured that I am in the hands of a gentlemen who are quite incapable of taking any unfair advantage of me, and the only favour I have to ask them is that they namely, the Provost, Mr Bethell, Mr Carter, Mr Trumper and yourself will give me a hearing of one quarter of an hour. They will I am sure bear in mind that no tenant of Middleton Brimfield has ever put the Colleges to a farthing expenses for repairs, and also that I have just built a house, as I am informed by you on the College land, at an outlay of about £900, which I was induced to do from the fact of the Provost stating (when he honored me with a call) that he believed there was no buildings whatever on the College property. The barns are now in such an exceedingly dilapidated condition from extreme age that I am informed by an architect that it is quite impossible to repair them, and it is equally impossible for us to house and thresh our corn without them". Offers to come to Windsor any convenient day.
Red wax seal.
