Goldcliff, Monmouthshire: Letter concerning a licence
Item
17 November 1788
2 folios
Mr Bold, Brecon, to the Provost asking for a licence to empower Mr Salisbury, to let the Priory Woods to Mr Hodges. Knew nothing of the inquiry made by the sea at Goldcliff until a meeting he lately had with Mr Salusbury and Mr Hodges at Monmouth and wonders Mr Salusbury had not mentioned it before. "I now find the inhabitants of the Level are greatly alarmed, that if the cliff goes off they shall be all drowned."
"As Mr Salusbury has taken the repairs of the sea walls on himself, being allowed tomber, I think it reasonable he should do the whole that is wanted, but he will say, Ture, I undertook to keep alll the old walls in repair, but I am not answerable for any new breaches made by the sea."
Seal, oval, 24 x 20mm, red wax, applied. Armorial, on a griffin segreant an inescutcheon a lion rampant. SAPERE AUDE. Crest, a griffin segreant.
