Content description

Counterpart of lease, by the Provost and College, to James Payn, of Maidenhead, gentleman, upon surrender of the foregoing, of all the messuages or tenement now divided and made into four cottages or tenements, with the gardens and appurtenances belonging, containing one care, in the several occupations of Gibson, Hobbs, Hammerton, Caruthers, William Bolstrodge, Thomas Shackle, John Hunter and Mrs Powney, and 2 acres of arable in Bray Ray and 2½ acres in meadow in four pieces lying in Fore leaze in the occupation of Joshua Aldridge, and a close of arable being an old inclosure called Randalls Park on Windmill Hill containing 2 acres 3 roods 3 perches and a close of arable being a new inclosure by Act of Parliament and laid to the last mentioned containing 4a 1r 14p, which two pieces are not in the occupation of William Grant, and that garden groung near Maidenhead Bridge containing 1r 20p in the occupation of Sir William Herne, knight, and two small pieces of orchard and garden near the upper end of Maidenhead nigh. The Braywick Road in the occupation of the lessee William Madden and William Abercrombie, all which said premises are in the parish of Bray; also 14½ acres of arable lying dispersed in 8 different pieces in a common field called the Upper Fields, and 7 acres of arable dispersed in 6 pieces in the Middle field, and 4½ acres of arable in 4 pieces in the common field called Cookham Ray, all which lands are in the occupation of Joshua Aldridge, and 2 acres of arable in Upper Southey, and 2 acres in Lower Southey common field in the occupation of Mrs Holderness, all which are in Cookham; also 2 farms at Hedgerley in Farnham Royal, one called Mecalfe's Farm, consisting of a messuage or tenement barns stable garden orchard and 9 closes of land, containing 30 acres, the other called Moore's farm, consisting of a messuage etc, and 6 closes of land, containing 12 acres, all which are in the occupation of John Rainscroft, and a messuage or tenement and blacksmith's shop and 2 acres of land, and a cottage near thereto, and a close of arable of 2½ acres near Beaconsfield common in Beaconsfield, occupied by Rainscroft with Metclafe's farm. Except wood. To hold the messuage or tenement in Maidenhead, and the three messuages or tenements in Hedgerly or Farnham Royal, and the messuage or tenement in Farnham Royal, and that in Langley Marsh, and the capital messuage or tenement in Iver and all other the premises, from old Lady day for 21 yeras. Rent £3 6s 8d, and 72 gallons of wheat and 384 gallons of malt, or their money equivalent, and 2 wether sheep to weigh 44 lbs a piece or 13s 4d.
