Title

Provost and Fellows: Minutes

Level

Sub-series

Administrative / Biographical history

If the Provost and Fellows kept systematic minutes of their meetings before 1716 these have not survived. However, various seal books and order books record at least some of their decisions, particularly those relating to the granting of leases, and entries in the order book of 1659/60-1676/7 (60/6/1/2) are often signed by the Fellows. From 1811 the Provost signed the record of meetings.

Date

1617 - 1904

Arrangement

Some draft and printed minutes from the post-Public Schools Act era also survive. They were found scattered between a large number of boxes of miscellaneous papers from a variety of sources sorted very roughly by decade by Noel Blakiston. Among these boxes were papers that may have originated with the College rather than the New Governing Body but since it was impossible to discover the exact provenance of individual items all such papers have been included with those of the New Governing Body.

Associated material

Private records of decisions, again often relating to the estates, have also survived. Ms. 301 is also such a record, containing extracts from the seal books covering 1660-1676 as well as various sermons and other memoranda. The bursars' records of dealings with particular estates, although not listed here, also reflect the activities of the Provost and Fellows.
