Title

King's Scholars: Election Rolls

Level

Sub-series

Other Number

ECR 60/154-246

Administrative / Biographical history

The first 10 rolls in this series were listed by Tom Martin in 1724 and endorsed (except for 60/10/1/3) Election Roll, with the regnal year. These are the survivors of a much larger class; clearly the cancelled rolls were not thought worth keeping. J.R Gilson stamped them ER 1-10.

Date

1444 - 1960

Content description

The layout is : names of the scholars elected to King's College, age at the feast day nearest their birthday, county and usually town of birth, repeated for Eton scholars. They are parchment, indented at the top or the left hand edge, and beginning with 60/10/1/3 are cancelled according to Statute. The later rolls are not indented but have usually been cancelled. They are signed by the Electors or by Fellows. From 1861 they contain the Eton election only
