"To Mr R. Baker, Mrs Tyrrels' Eton College". Glad his journey to Oxford went well; Merton is an expensive college but prudence will make him as economical as he can be. He should cultivate men whose fortunes are rather above his own but be careful of his associates especially at first. Dressing for hall necessary to distinguish gentlemen from 'the raff'. He should leave Eton as thriftily as possible; a breakfast would be better than a dinner. He should make a speech to the Provost in return for the Postmastership but presents to the master and tutor of superannuated boys are not he presumes expected. Family news.
