Jasper and others will be very disappointed but nobody will have the least right to complain. Little doubt he would be appointed if he stood and may be asked even so, he himself had no doubts that he would not be capable of it - a head incapable of teaching would be unable to do the job properly. If he had kept teaching up he would have let his name go forward because of his passion for Eton. But he would have hated a good deal of the job; he does not really care about games.
