Durnford's efforts to get the Pemberton boys `a good berth'. Surveyor for dilapidations has overlooked settlement in his new house at Creeting. Floods going down. Oscar Browning's dismissal; hopes this is the end of it but he has friends including Knatchbull-Hugessen, 'a very silly fellow'.
