Arthur Benson to John Bramston

Very grateful for his kindness but he has decided not to stand. Things different from what he had thought. There are more and stronger candidates. His interview with Rendal showed him that though some wished him to stand, the wish was not strong enough or general enough for him to put himself forward when there were so many 'cons' to take into account. No personal ambition though if he was really wanted he would have felt it a duty. Grateful for his friendship.
