Article entitled 'Table Talk of Wellington' from The Times, 4 March 1927. Unpublished notes on a dinner and evening visit to Duke of Wellington's at Stratfield-Saye in 1849. Notes originally written by Edward Vaughn Williams, Judge of Common Pleas.
Notes initially cover the kind hospitality of the Duke, attendees (including Mrs Smith, wife of Ashton Smith, and Lord Denman). Notes then presented mainly as a conversation between the Duke and Lord Denman. They discuss Macaulay's History and the present state of France, particularly espionage, Napoleon, and the Bourbon family.
