These letters form two main groups: those written and received by Victor Alexander Bruce, 1849 - 1917, 9th Earl, and those written by his son Edward James Bruce, 1881 - 1968, 10th Earl. Two letters by Edward's brother Robert, and letters from Dr Warre and Victor's first house tutor, Mr Frewer, are also present. Both the 8th and the 9th Earl were Viceroys of India.

Content description

The letters written from Eton are the standard schoolboy type but descriptions of visits to India add particular interest. There is also a description of the 10th Earl's victory in the Spencer Cup.
