Henry Jenkyns (1795-1878) was educated at Eton College and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and was a fellow of Oriel from 1818-35. In 1833 he became Professor of Greek and classical literature at the University of Durham; in 1835 was acting Professor, and from 1840-1864 Professor of Divinity. In 1839 he became prebend of Durham Cathedral.
