Fanny Keate: Letter from Richard Okes
Item
22 October 1834
From Eton. Sending Mrs Keate a translation of the section of the Cloister Speech which had reference to Dr Keate. Hopes that she is enjoying uninterrupted happiness with Dr Keate now he is retired whereas before she only had glimpses of him. Events have crowded upon Eton and Richard Okes is glad not to have time to think about them. Regards to Dr Keate and Miss Browne and the Keate daughters. Signed Richd Okes.
Enclosed is the extract of the Speech on Dr Keates retiring as Provost, after 24 years sadness at his leaving but wishing him a happy retirement safe in the knowledge that the helm of Eton is being passed on to good hands. Addressed to Mrs Keate with no address.
Note on front from Fanny 'Mr Okes kind letter on Dr Keate leaving Eton'. Along the lower edge of front 'Favoured by Mr Goodall'
