Fanny Keate: Letter from Countess Pauline Neale
Item
1 June 1841
From Berlin. Writes of her niece's marriage in Germany and not being able to get to England as well. She had been asked to the Walkers but Harriets father was mortally ill. It was a great sacrifice the dear Doctor (Keate) made to stay longer than necessary at his exalted position. She regrets not witnessing Montem much as Fanny hated it she could see that thanks to the railroad its nuisance could only increase. Laments that Anna is an invalid but uncomplaining as ever. I always expect to hear of an addition to Fanny's neighbourhood by W.Wellesley. She thinks he must enjoy the quiet home enjoyment after all the turmoils of his public life.Questions politics in England, and fears that the con(?) bill passes it will be as ineffectual as the Emancipation proved and be the ruin of landed properties. Glad to hear the new Rectory is nearly roofed.
