Title

Margaretta Brown: Letter from Dr Brown to Fanny Keate

Level

Item

Date

9 June 1817

Content description

Written from Sydenham Cottage. So relieved to be out of 'vile London'. He 'was never so disgusted with the dirt and the blacks'. Keen for clean air and clean horses, both impossible in London. Did not like to venture out after the accident that befell Mrs Nevison. The children have the whooping cough. Enchanted by the drive from Dulwich to this place (Sydenham) Impatient to be at Eton, wuold like a lift if anyone is going there soon but has no transport except jigging in an ordinary post horse. Enchanted with a lovely walk on the outskirts of Norwood, the hedges full of harebells, lillies of the valley and all kinds of wild flowers, the hills covered in yellow and heather. A great treat which almost induced a feeling of melancholy.
Addressed to Mrs Keate, Eton College, Windsor
