Charles Brown: Draft letter to Sir Arthur Paget
Item
17 January 1806
Letter in response to Paget's letter of the 7th January 1806. Brown dispatched his servant to find out the manufactory where the tobacco Paget requested. He has written to Count Metherwick who will transfer it to Paget. His horses have not arrived in Berlin yet. Wishes for information about his friend Sir John Stepney, who has quit Venice on account of the war. Brown will accompany the Dragoon as far as Vienna. He is alone, having left Mrs Brown and Margaretta in England. His son has embarked with the cavalry to the East Indies, taking with him a very young, inexperienced wife: ‘very handsome and accomplished but without a shilling’. Written from Berlin.
