Administrative / Biographical history
The parish had possessed a fire engine since at least 1837 but the brigade seems to have been put on a more organised footing in 1869, when several part-time volunteers were recruited and the site next to the Porny School was acquired for the engine. In 1904 this was replaced by a new station at 102/103 High Street. The Brigade was amalgamated with the National Fire Service in 1942 and the station closed in 1946.
