Administrative / Biographical history
Hugh Vibart Macnaghten was a housemaster from 1898.1-1920.2. These files are those of Eugen Millington Drake (1901.2-1908.2) who was the moving spirit behind the Macnaghten Old Boys Association Annual Dinner and who also sent out circulars and newsletters on old boys, reminiscences of Macnaghten and life in the house, and reports on current Eton affairs. The Macnaghten Library was Millington-Drake's memorial to the old boys of the house who died in World War I.
After 1951 the dinners were expanded to include members of Headlam's house, the successor to Macnaghten's, although it is stated several times that Headlam himself was not in favour of this kind of gathering and had discouraged it during his lifetime.
Date
1950 - 1971
Content description
These files are largely to do with arrangements for the annual dinner, although correspondents often include reminiscences or news, and do not include copies of the reports sent out after the dinners. The 1958 file also includes material on the Eton Appeal.
