Born in 1871, he was the son of Edward George Percy Littleton, 3rd Baron Hatherton and Charlotte Louise Rowley. Educated at Eton & Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was on active service during the South African War with the Manchester Regiment at the Siege of Ladysmith and later with Roberts Horse, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He also served on the staff of the Press Censor in Cape Town. After the war he travelled widely across Australia and Tasmania before retiring to Bournemouth. He died in 1951, aged 80.
