Anne Thackeray Ritchie collection: Anne Thackeray Ritchie’s Manuscript Journal
File
In her late-middle age, Thackeray-Richie re-read the diaries she had been keeping between 1859 and 1903 and copied selected passages into a journal alongside inserted extracts and drawings. After compiling the volumes, she destroyed her original diaries.
1859-1903
4 volumes
The journal is contained in four volumes created from the now destroyed diaries and covers the following years:
01: 1859-1863
02: 1864-1877
03: 1878-1894
04: 1894-1903
The entries consist of a chronology of events, ‘reconstructed’ with hindsight; details of her various engagements through the years; and personal reflections. They are an important reflection on the later Victorian literary scene.
