Content description
The autograph letters were written while Thesiger was stationed in the Van province of Turkey, his first posting in the Consular Service, where he was a secretary to the Vice-Consul. They describe his daily activities, the people he met and his experiences whilst he was there. He also describes the local culture and traditions and gives an insight into the political situation and the role of a young diplomat at the time.
