Content description
The envelope contains a photocopy of the autograph notebook, containing Thesiger’s day by day entries between 25 July 1970 and 26 January 1971. The entries cover his six-month voyage round the Indonesian islands in 1977 with the writer Gavin Young. Additional photocopies in the envelope includes copies of a guest list for a dinner party at Carcosa on 11 January 1978 and correspondence from the British High Commission and the Indonesian Ambassador, concerning Thesiger’s voyage.
Existence and location of originals
A note on the front of the envelope states that the original is with Alexander Maitland who claimed Thesiger gave it to him. Maitland has promised to return the diary to Eton College, before or on is death. The note is signed and dated M.C. Meredith 19 March 2014.
