Manuscript and corrected typescripts of John Carter's article 'How We Got Wise', written for the Sunday Times Magazine on 8 March 1970. The title as given by Carter in his drafts is 'Thomas J. Wise, Book-Forger'. He apparently did not approve of the final title thought of by the Sunday Times. Also included are two copies of the printed article and an autograph letter signed from John Carter to Michael Meredith that accompanied the donation of the manuscript.
Provenance
Given to Eton College Library by John Carter in 1970. In a quarter red leather over cloth box with gilt title on spine.
