Mary Coleridge was a British novelist and poet who also wrote essays and reviews. She was the great-grandniece of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. She was taught Greek by William Johnson Cory ten days before his death.

The autograph manuscript of her 'Record of the Table Talk of William Johnson Cory', printed in 'Gathered Leaves from the Prose of Mary E. Coleridge' in 1910. The manuscript is 97 p., written partly in her cursive and partly in her 'print' script. It is inscribed to her father on the inside upper cover of the original limp cloth notebook. The published text contains omissions in numerous places. The manuscript contains a record of Cory's talk at the Greek classes which he gave for Mary Coleridge and a few of her friends from 3 February 1886 to 1 June 1892, ten days before his death.
Loosely inserted in the manuscript is a 5-line Greek quotation in Cory's hand, signed and dated 1890.
Also included is a typescript of Carter's article about the manuscript, and related correspondence about transferring it to Eton College Library. There are additionally photocopies of the manuscript and later research notes about it.

The manuscript was purchased from Sotheby's, 9 July 1968, by John Carter. After writing an article about it, he passed it onto College Library.
