Album of photographs illustrating Edward Hope Vere's diplomatic postings in Serbia, including Ragusa, Split and Solin; his family home in Biarritz; posting to Argentina including Buenos Aires and visit to Rio de Janeiro; Montevideo, including his role the return of Sir Ernest Shackleton's body from Montevideo to South Georgia, Shackleton's memorial service and newspaper reports; official events; posting to Christiania, Norway; with his captions; includes official documents, dinner invitations, prize-giving programme, a cartoon, loose photographs, including a fancy-dress ball with Hope Vere as King James I, Jul 1923 and postcards
Existence and location of originals
An album of official photographs of the arrival of Sir Ernest Shackleton's remains from South Georgia to Montevideo, Uruguay, his funeral service and the return of his remains to South Georgia has been catalogued separately at ECL-O.71-2013. It may have been presented to Edward Hope Vere and formed part of the papers of Edward Hope Vere, but became separated.
