Lady Susan Young and Sir George Young collection: Autograph letters between Winthrop Mackworth Praed and his sisters Susan and Elizabeth
File
1812-1821
2 envelopes; 61 items
The letters were written first from Langley Broom and subsequently from Eton. The majority are written to Susan Praed; however the occasional letter to his older sister Elizabeth is also included.
The letters from Langley are very general letters concerning his progress and family news. The letters from Eton College contain a greater level of description about life at the school, and his achievements, and his writings. From 1815 they also started to contain short valentine verses which he continued to send every year as well as other short verses or extracts of Latin or Greek for Susan to translate
In 1819, some of the letters were written in French
