‘The Ascent of Elijah’ was Praed’s entry to the Cambridge Searonin Prize in 1830. He was not happy with the first draft of the poem and so rewrote it during his journey to Cambridge and ended up submitting both attempts.
The file contains an autograph manuscript of the original poem and a printed edition of the second version of the poem which won the prize.
