The Honourable William John Borlase-Warren-Venables-Vernon (1834-1919) was a Dante scholar, following on the work of his father George John Venables-Vernon (1803-1866), 5th Lord Vernon. He published several readings on Dante's works including 'Readings on the Purgatorio of Dante'; 'Readings on the Inferno of Dante'; 'Readings on the Paradiso of Dante'.

In 1855 he married Agnes Lucy, daughter of Sir John Peter Boileau; she died in 1881 and in 1884 he remarried, to Annie Georgiana, daughter of Charles Eyre.

Vernon received several honours for his services to Italian literature and culture.

The papers concern Vernon's manuscripts for his 'Readings on the Paradiso of Dante', 'Readings on the Purgatorio of Dante', and 'Readings on the Inferno of Dante'

Included among this collection are published copies of each of the manuscripts.

Some related material concerning the Gold Medal Vernon received is also included with the papers
