Content description
Box of travel notebooks, containing notes which were used in creating ‘Slow Boat to China’. The individual books relate to particular places he visited, including Sandakan, Calcutta, Madras, Penang, Singapore, Jeddah, Dubai, Philippines, Samoa, Turkey, Greece, Hong Kong and Turkey. A number of the notebooks contain loose notes, receipts or business cards, created or collected during his trip. These notebooks act as a travel diary providing brief descriptions of the places he visited and the people he met.
Also included in the box are general literary notebooks used to write down initial ideas for the book including notes on initial thoughts on the title and changes to be made.
The notes are all in Young’s hand.
