This sub-series is principally comprised of a set of postcards collected by Ashton-Gwatkin while in Japan and postcards he sent while in Japan. The messages written by Ashton-Gwatkin are generally very short, often explaining the image depicted or relating to family matters, and occasionally making reference to his work as a writer.

Postcards between Nancy and Frank were kept separately and listed under the sub-series: MS 677 02 01

The postcards were originally housed in small nicely decorated boxes. They have been removed for preservation purposes; however the boxes have been kept and are stored with the rest of the archive.

The files have been arranged according to the recipient. This reflects the filing structure at the time the archive was acquired.
