Page a day diary for the year 1920. The early part of the diary consists of various news cuttings containing poems; book reviews; the death of George Morrison and articles relating to Japan. From March, Gwatkin began including handwritten entries for each day concerning his day to day activities. Between 8 August and 17 September 1920 Nancy Ashton-Gwatkin wrote in the diary instead of her husband.

Particular items of interest include:
Several typescript poems by Gwatkin entitled: ‘Billie Carleton’ (p.15); 'G.E. Morrison’ (p.15); ‘Flat Hunting’ (p.24); ‘Malacca’ (p.25); ‘A Ballade of Dead Poets’ (p.39); and ‘At the Tomb of Oscar Wilde’ (p.41)

Other notable items of interest include loose autograph and typed letters including:
A letter from Sidney Brooks regarding an article Gwatkin’s was writing for the Sperling’s magazine on the Purposes of Consular Service
Letters from G.E. Morrison regarding his time in Japan and an obituary for George Ernest Morrison (June 1920)
Various letters concerning a draft manuscript of Kimono and the possibilities of publishing the novel and from A.P. Watt regarding Collins not wishing to publish the work
A letter from A.P. Watt to Gwatkin informing him that Collins had decided against publishing it
Letters regarding Gwatkin’s unsuccessful application to transfer to the Commercial Diplomatic Service on 20 Feb 1920 and his letter of resignation from the Far Eastern Consular Service on 21 Apr 1920 and subsequent withdrawal (29 November 1920)
Letters from J.W. Prothero (editor of the Quarterly Review), regarding Ashton-Gwatkin’s article on Japan in wartime
