Christopher Fry (18 December 1907 – 30 June 2005) was an English poet and playwright who wrote ‘A Sleep of Prisoners’ for the Religious Drama Society, and which Moelwyn Merchant read and advised on its theological orthodoxy. The two became good friends and they continued to assist each other in their respective fields.

Content description

The bulk of the series comprises letters from Christopher Fry to Merchant, covering both professional and personal matters, with some to his wife Lynne, as well as letters from Fry’s wife Phyllis.

There are also several typescripts written by Fry included in this sub-series, along with other related papers, including press cuttings, play programmes, and articles about Fry, which were collected by Merchant.
